MarkingsStamped mark for the factory of Josef Böck
DescriptionJutta Sika designed this coffee service around 1902 (the pieces were possibly once part of a larger service, including perhaps a teapot as well). It was produced by the factory of Josef Böck as indicated by the stamped mark. The design still looks strikingly modern and was extremely bold for the time. It is based on a combination of curvilinear outlines and geometric forms of the handles. The flat, triangular handles would have been impractical, especially on the larger wares. Each piece is decorated with silver overlay ornament consisting of overlapping circles from which vertical lines radiate. There is a sense of unity and continuity among the objects expressed through the repeated outlines and circle motifs, and in the way in which the patterns join on the cups and saucers.
