DescriptionBase and lid fit together to form a figure of a dying woman, Marguerite from Camille (1936) played by Greta Garbo. The English version of the 1852 play La Dame aux camélias (The Lady of the Camellias) by Alexandre Dumas the Younger, Camille is a tragic love story built around the love of worldly, fashionable Camille (Marguerite Gauthier in the original story) for Armand Duval, a penniless young man. The piece shows Marguerite reclining on a sofa, her body is black, she wears a sparkling green dress, and a pale yellow flower rests below her chin. As in most of Blackburn’s pieces, he used Barbie doll moulds, and adapted them to his pieces.
